Barbara Ann Freeman Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

In the early hours of July 4, 2022, Barbara Ann Freeman, 79, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a long illness. Born on December 21, 1942, in Liverpool, WV, she was the youngest of 10 children born to the late Roy and Janie Rhodes Mitchell. In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brothers, Gay, Lawrence, Buddy, and Bubby Mitchell; and her sisters, Evelyn Willis, Dorothy Grady, and Violet Burdette. Retired from the Mason County Board of Education, where she worked first as a bus driver and then as a teacher’s aide, Barbara was an avid reader who loved gardening, music, and staying in touch with family and friends. Following her retirement, she developed a passion for trout fishing, spending many hours in Richwood, WV, fishing the Cranberry River with her husband of 59 years, Roger Freeman. But her greatest sense of accomplishment came from being a mother of four, a grandmother of eight, and a great-grandmother of two. Barbara is survived by her husband, Roger Freeman; her children, Kellie Lamb (Ray), Chris Freeman (Valerie), Beth Freeman, and Danny Freeman (Angie); her brother, Junior Mitchell; her sister, AnnaLea McCrady; her grandchildren, Michael Lamb (Brittany), Samantha Lamb, Madeline Freeman, Mackenzie Freeman, Mitchell Freeman, Mackandle Freeman, Zach Freeman, and Isaac Freeman; her great-grandchildren, Phoebe Dickess and Ariel Lamb; as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Cathy Searls officiating.
