Jewell Faye (Waugh) Steele

February 7, 1930 - June 18, 2012

Jewell Faye (Waugh) Steele, 82, of Point Pleasant, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born February 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Homer L. Waugh Sr. and Lula (Simms) Waugh. Jewell was a member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she was active with the Harvesters Sunday School Class, Joy Fellowship Group,the Merry Widows Lunch Bunch and a volunteer with the Awana Club. She had worked as Secretary for 22 years at Point Pleasant High School in the Guidance Office, and was a member of Hidden Valley Ladies Golf Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene "Gene" Steele; two brothers, Homer Waugh Jr. and Merrill Waugh; one infant brother and infant sister; a son-in-law, Charles "Charlie" Withers II; two sisters-in-law, Jessie Mae Waugh and Virginia Burke; a brother-in-law, J.C. Burke; and father-in-law, Augustus Madison "Gus" Steele and mother-in-law, Ethel Corfee Steele. Jewell is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Mike Hall of Teays Valley, WV, Brenda Withers of Apple Grove, and Cyndi and Bill Barker of Point Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Charles R. (Kim) Withers III of Poca, WV, Abbie (Scott) Parsons of Leon, Kurt (Jennifer) Withers of Gallipolis Ferry, William Michael (Heather) Hall II of Hurricane, WV, Eric (Jessica) Hall of Lewisburg, WV, Trey Barker of Pittsburgh, PA, and Madison Jewell Barker of Point Pleasant; nine great grandchildren, Charles "Chad" R. Withers IV, Sara Rogers Withers, Emily Parsons, Julia Parsons, Kirsten Withers, Michaela Hall, Shayla Hall, Ezra Hall, Steele Hall. She is also survived by two brothers, Howard Waugh of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Carl (EmmaLee) Waugh of Bidwell, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Maxine Waugh of Columbus, Ohio, and Mary Emma Waugh of Crown City, Ohio. A funeral service will be held at noon, Friday, June 22, 2012 at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Sargent and Rev. Mike Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to Dr. Carrie Dillard and office staff, Dr. Robert Tayengco, Pleasant Valley Home Health and Hospice Services, Pleasant Valley Home Medical Equipment, and Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and staff, for their kindness, exceptional care and compassion shown to our mother during her illness.
