Lawrence Raymond Scarberry

December 22, 1934 - March 15, 2022

Lawrence R. Scarberry, 87, of Henderson, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at home surrounded by family. He was born December 22, 1934, in Letart Falls, OH, a son of the late Johnson Samuel Scarberry and Emma Marie (Grady) Scarberry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise K. Scarberry; granddaughter, Teresa M. Bonecutter; and brothers, Robert Scarberry, Aaron Scarberry and infant brother Francis Scarberry. Lawrence was a graduate of Wahama High School Class of 1952, served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps and retired from the American Alloy Company in New Haven, WV. He was a member of the United Steelworkers, American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant and the Mason County Farm Bureau. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed the sport of drag racing and was proud of being named "Crew Chief of the Year" in 2008. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara H. (Hatfield) Scarberry of Henderson; daughters, Laura Sue (Charles) Bonecutter of Gallipolis Ferry, Cathy (Ray) Logan of Gallipolis Ferry and Karen (Steven) Meadows of Point Pleasant; a son, Larry (Barbara) Scarberry of Point Pleasant; daughter-in-law, Sarah Katherine "Kathy" Deckard of Point Pleasant; grandchildren, Lindsey (Rob) Ellis, Justin (Genie) Logan, Whitney (Travis) Epling and Alexis Meadows; and two great-grandsons, Sawyer Ellis and Calvin Ellis. He is also survived by sisters, Ruth Ann (Ron) McBride of Lexington, KY and Betty Jane Holden of Kalamazoo, MI; and brothers, Wilford (Edna) Scarberry of Point Pleasant, Samuel (Debbie) Scarberry of Montrose, WV and Roy Thomas (Earlene) Scarberry of New Haven, WV. The family would like to give a special thank you to caregivers Louise Early and Donna Cheesebrew. A graveside service and burial will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2022, at Concord Cemetery in Henderson, with Pastor Bob Patterson officiating. Military graveside honors will be given by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Concord Baptist Church, 349 Jim Hill Road, Henderson, WV 25106.
