Allan Omondi Wasonga, 21, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, July 14, 2014. He was born November 25, 1992, in Nairobi, Kenya, a son of Willis and Hellen Wasonga, of Point Pleasant. Allan was a member of Christ Temple Church in Huntington, WV and was currently a student at Mount West Community College. He was an outstanding athlete, playing football as a running back at Point Pleasant High School, and his junior senior year at Parkersburg High School, where he graduated in 2011. After graduation, he had scholarship offers to continue his career at Ohio State, Penn State, WVU, Syracuse, Pitt, Tennessee, Ohio University, UCLA, and Marshall. Due to a high school injury, he decided to stay close to home and committed to Marshall University. He later left Marshall and enrolled at Mount West. During his junior year at Parkersburg, he finished second in the voting for the Kennedy Award, given to the top high school player in West Virginia, and was named West Virginia's Gatorade Player of the Year. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Cathy Wasonga, of Point Pleasant; and three brothers, Caleb Wasonga and Eugine Wasonga, of Point Pleasant, and Kevin Wasonga, of Morgantown, WV. A funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2014, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Rich Blain officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. till the service time at the funeral home Friday.
