Burl Leo Duncan

Burl Leo Duncan, 79, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 11, 1947, in Apple Grove, WV, a son of the late William Worthy “Bill” and Edna Marie (Roush) Duncan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Eugene, Don, Charles Lewis, James W. “Johnsey” Duncan and two sisters, Stella Plantz and Edna Logan.

Burl retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways as an Equipment Operator and was a Logger by trade. He was a member of the Apostolic Life Cathedral Church in Guyandotte, WV.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Sharron Kay (Stover) Duncan; children, Tabitha K. Butler (Charles) of Glenwood, WV, Burl Leo Duncan II (Robin Crystal) of Apple Grove, WV, Angelique Michelle Freeman of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Matthew Louis Duncan (Sarah) of Genoa, WV, Cheyenne Autumn Spangler (Cody) of Apple Grove, WV; sisters, Ruth Birchfield (Carl) of Point Pleasant, WV, Betty Barker (Robert) of Glenwood, WV, Vicki Young (Rod) of Ona, WV, Renie Plantz of Point Pleasant, WV; grandchildren, Seth, Chase, Kelsey, Riley, Zach, Isaac, William, Zachary, Elijah, Jazz, Burl, Wyatt, Lillian, Lydia and three great grandchildren, Darius, Evelyn, and Sawyer.

A service to celebrate the life of Burl will be 1 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Apostolic Life Cathedral Church, Guyandotte, WV, with Bishop Edward Harper officiating. Private burial will follow at the Duncan Family Cemetery, Gallipolis Ferry, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 12 p.m. until the time of the service on Monday, at the church.
