Capt. Lyle Jackson Moore

Captain Lyle Jackson Moore, 67, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the home of his daughter, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 9, 1946, in Point Pleasant, a son of the late Capt. Goffrey D. Moore and Imogene L. (Vaughan) Moore. Lyle was raised in the Henderson Church of Christ and rededicated his life July 2, 2014. He was a U. S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War and was a retired riverboat captain for AEP River Transportation. Lyle was a member of American Legion Post No. 23, and Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 731 of Point Pleasant, and had attended Point Pleasant High School. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Vaughan Moore. Captain Moore is survived by his former wife of 41 years, Linda C. Moore of Point Pleasant; daughter, Alicia and R.P. Cale of West Columbia, WV; a granddaughter, Caleigh Ann Cale of Gallipolis Ferry; step grandsons, Scott (Shawna) Cale of Fairplain, WV, and Chris (Cheyenne Johnson) Cale of Letart, WV; three step great grandchildren, Nevan, Gwendolyn, and Berklee Cale. Also surviving, sister, Carolyn Sayre; two brothers, Dale Moore and Gene Moore; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Monday, September 1, 2014, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with his best friend, Johnny Rogers, and his nephew, Russ V. Moore, II officiating. Burial will follow at Austin-Hope-McLeod Cemetery, in Gallipolis Ferry where military graveside rites will be given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, it is the family's wish to have donations made to Lyle's niece's memorial foundation, the Angela "Charlie" Lilly Community Foundation Fund, P. O. Box 1762, Parkersburg, WV 26102-1762. This fund helps with youth community projects and church and school based programs in our area. Online condolences may be made at www.wilcoxenfuneralhome.com.
