Donald Eugene Waldie

Donald Eugene Waldie, 91, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston, WV, following a brief illness.

He was born October 2, 1934, in Point Pleasant, WV, a son of the late Thomas D. and Bonnie (Mayes) Waldie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Leah (Asher) Waldie; brothers, Thomas D. Waldie, William J. “Bill” Waldie and several aunts and uncles.

Donald graduated from Point Pleasant High School, class of 1952. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Minturn Lodge #19 AF&AM, Loyal Order of the Moose #731, Point Pleasant, WV. One of his most proud accomplishments was that he was elected President of his class all four years of high school. He attended Marshall College, and spent the majority of his working career (42 years) with Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Company, Century Aluminum, Pechiney Rolled Products and Aclan in Ravenswood, WV, in Sales and Marketing.

Donald was a past council member of the Point Pleasant City Council. After moving out of the city limits and unable to serve in council, he was elected as a member of the Mason County Board of Education where he served for six years. He was a registered official referee for football and basketball and officiated in both West Virginia and Ohio for many years.

Donald was a past President of the Ordinance Grade School, PTA, Point Pleasant Big Black Backers Association, and the Point Pleasant River Museum Foundation

Survivors include his children, Matthew D. Waldie and his wife, Jann of Charleston, WV, Mark A. Waldie and his wife, Sally of Sylvania, OH; grandchildren, Blake Waldie of Reston, VA, Logan Waldie of Lancaster, OH, Nicole (Dave) Minor of Sylvania, OH, Emily (Josh Archer) Waldie of Kailua, HI, Tyler (Emma) Waldie of Cincinnati, OH and Susan (Art Wolf) Waldie of Duluth, MN; two nephews, Scott (Sherrie Girten) Waldie of Lewisport, KY and Craig (Gay) Waldie of Hawesville, KY and several nieces, nephews and additional family members.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Ronnie Tote officiating. Burial will follow at the New Lone Oak Cemetery in Point Pleasant. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
