Frankie Mayes, 95, of Apple Grove, WV, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, at the CHP Defiance Hospice Center in Defiance, OH with her family by her side.
She was born August 20, 1929, in Omar, Logan County, WV and proudly raised in Harts Creek, WV, a daughter of the late John Dalton and Nessel (Curry) Dalton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Emerson Eugene "Gene" Mayes of fifty eight years; daughter, Terry Lee Mayes; sisters, Stella Alford, Viola Mayes, infant sisters, Ellen and Eileen Dalton; brothers, Owen Dalton, Vernon Dalton, Alfred Dalton and Thomas Dalton.
Frankie was a retired cook from the Mason County Schools with eighteen years of service. She had also worked at the Sylvania Plant in Point Pleasant and the Veterans Home in Barboursville, WV and attended Guyan Valley High School. She was a member of Balls Chapel Church in Ashton and enjoyed visiting other churches in the area, especially Ashton Baptist Church which became her home church that she faithfully attended and enjoyed playing her guitar and singing. Frankie along with her siblings used to travel and sing on the radio and at different venues in her earlier years. Frankie cared for many people in her life-time and made them feel like family. She inspired a few songs and a lot of good deeds, making the world around her better. Her eyes lit up when her grandchildren entered the room. She ministered to others through food, feeding the body and spirit by loving unconditionally. Everyone was welcome at her table and in her arms. Her greatest joy was being involved and loving on her grandchildren through the years and quilting several quilts after retirement.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Patsy Brumfield of Rockport, IN; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Don Reynolds of Point Pleasant, Pam and Jimmy Smith of Antwerp, OH and Kim and Jack Alyanakian of Bryan, OH; grandchildren, Shawn and Kristy Brumfield, Tim and Shirley Brumfield, Chris and Melissa Barnett, Shana and Shad Roberts, Jessie and Matt Smith, J.R. and Stacie Smith, Ara, Zaven, Eden and Arella Alyanakian, Tracy and Frankie Hudnall; great grandchildren, Nyah, Wade, Breely, Josie, Jayce, Jiya, Bailey, Gavin, Madison, Braxton, Emily, Skylah, Jack, Jake, Delaney, Corey, Amelia, Baylee and Tank; great great grandchildren, Hayes and Jonah; one sister, Ruby Lewis of Hurricane and one special niece who was like a daughter, Patty Edmonds of Apple Grove and many extended family members who will always hold a special place in her heart along with a host of dear friends and her two furry lap dogs, Blaze and Bella.
