Hester Jean Montcastle

Hester Jean Montcastle, 90, of Lesage, WV, passed away Monday, May 25, 2026, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV.

She was born May 8, 1936 in Hamlin, WV, to the late George Douglas Holley and Doskie Jewell (Roberts) Holley.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Owen Montcastle; three children, Julia Purdy, John D. Fannin and Mary Jane Cummings; one grandson, George Fannin; one brother Bud Holley and infant brother James Holley.

Jean was a retired cook from Mason County Schools.

Survivors include her children, Carolyn Sue Wilson of Lesage, WV, Janet Cooper of Collinsville, VA, Kevin Joe Montcastle of Columbus, OH, Michael O. (Reta) Montcastle of Gallipolis, OH, Robin A. (Tom) Winkler of Catawba, NC and one special grandson that was raised by Hester Jean and Charles Owen as their own, Charles E. (Laura) Meadows of Letart, WV; 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 13 great great grandchildren.

A graveside service and burial will be 11 a.m., Friday, May 29, 2026, at Beale Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove, WV, with Ronnie Cremeans officiating.
