James Sylvester “Jim” Dabney, 80, of Point Pleasant, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 17, 1946, in Arlee, WV, a son of the late John and Ruth (Carroll) Dabney. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Carol Powell and Helen “Punkie” Kinnaird.
Jim graduated from Point Pleasant High School, class of 1964 and was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from Constellium in Ravenswood, WV, as a Foreman with 27 years of service. Jim was a member of New Hope Bible Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, WV, where he served as a Sunday School Teacher and was part of the Gideons and the Good News Club.
Left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 24 years, Vanda Kaye (Bennett) Dabney of Point Pleasant, WV; children, James Craig Dabney (Elizabeth Roush) of Point Pleasant, WV, John A. Dabney and his wife, Dee Dee of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Jesse S. Howard of Williamsburg, KY, Rachel K. Rinker and her husband, Michael of Winchester, VA; sister, Susie (David) Cassell of Southside, WV; brother, Charles R. “Charley” Dabney of Gallipolis Ferry, WV; grandchildren, Chase Dabney (Jillian Pino), Carlee Hill (Clayton), Thomas Dabney, Cory Dabney (Shelly), Erin Dabney, Sydney Howard (Camden Hensley), Brock Howard, Jericho Howard, Israel Howard, Spencer Rinker, Liam Rinker; special friends, Elmer Hart, Roy Wray, Gary Kinnaird; multiple nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends
Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, WV, with Pastor Dean Warner officiating. Burial will follow at Kirkland Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant, WV, with military honors provided by Gallia County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
