James David Hall, 67, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, February 24, 2014 at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, OH. He was born November 10, 1946 in Pulaski, VA, and raised in Hurricane, WV to the late James Miller Hall and Beatrice (Dalton) Hall. Dave was a 1964 graduate of Hurricane High School where he lettered in football, baseball, and wrestling. He attended West Virginia Tech on a football scholarship where he recovered a fumble for his first and only career touchdown. After an injury, he transferred to Morris Harvey University and graduated in 1970 with a Bachelors of Arts in Education. After starting his teaching career in Mason County, he furthered his education by obtaining a Masters Degree in Social Studies from Marshall University. He met his wife, Joyce, at the Nitro Church of God where they married in 1972. His career with the Mason County School System began at Mount Flower, and over a 35 year span he taught at North Point and New Haven Elementary, Point Pleasant and Wahama High School, and served as a principal at West Columbia Elementary. Dave loved sports and was an avid bowler and softball player during his years in Point Pleasant. However, his passion was football and through the years he coached for both Point Pleasant Junior High and assisted with coaching of the Point Pleasant Varsity and Junior High teams. He leaves his wife of 42 years Joyce Ann (Mattox) Hall, his son Timothy David Hall and his wife Ashley (McNeil) Hall of Englewood, OH, his daughter Tara Lynn (Hall) Gilkey and her husband Keith B. Gilkey of South Charleston, WV. Rounding out his life were his four grandchildren Connor, Justin, Addison, and Raelyn, several cousins, and many close friends. A memorial servce will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, February 27, 2014, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Dean Warner officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-7 p.m. prior to service. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Point Pleasant High School in the name of the Dave Hall Scholarship Fund.
