James Woodrow "Woodie" Long

James Woodrow "Woodie" Long, 90, of Gallipolis Ferry, went home to be with his Lord, Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House, in Huntington, WV. He was born January 27, 1924, in Gallipolis Ferry, a son of the late Isaac Long and Dimple Francis (Neal) Long. Woodie was a member of Faith Gospel Church in Gallipolis Ferry, and a well known and respected home builder in Mason County. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eddie Long; and two sisters, Carolyn Taylor and Bonnie Harper. Woodie is survived by his wife, Helen Virginia (Henry) Long, whom he married April 12, 1990; stepsons, Fred (April) Pyles and Bob (Marybeth) Pyles of Gallipolis Ferry, and David (Connie) Pyles of Dickson, TN; two sisters, Mary (Estille) Meaige and Shirley (Donnie) Sergent of Gallipolis Ferry; one brother, Earl Long of Gallipolis Ferry; and four step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 23, 2014, at Faith Gospel Church, Gallipolis Ferry, with Pastors Dee Keith and Joe Hammack officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Henderson, WV. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Friday, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, and one hour prior to service Saturday, at the church. For those considering an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be given to: Faith Gospel Church, c/o of Joyce Bush, P. O. Box 116, Gallipolis Ferry, WV 25515, to be used for the Beams Bible Education and Missionary Service, which sends bibles to missionaries.
