Janette "Jean" Louise Dewees, 75, of Point Pleasant, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Holzer Assisted Living in Gallipolis, OH. She was born December 12, 1937, in Leon, WV, a daughter of the late William Lewis Smith and Sylvia Violet (Gleason) Smith. Jean had a love for music her entire life which started with the Point Pleasant High School Band. She was a member, song leader and choir director of the adult and children's choir for 40 years at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant and also sang with the Good Shepherd Quartet. She was a 1955 graduate of Point Plesant High School, 2007 Heritage Queen, member of the Mason County Community Choir, Quilts & Things II and retired with 47 years service from Peoples Bank. Simply put, she was a lady of many talents some of which included sewing, quilting and cake decorating. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hobart Dewees Jr.; one brother, William "Bill" Lewis Smith Jr. and one infant brother; one sister, Mary Katherine Gibbs; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dewees Pauley and Ellen Coleman Dewees; and three brothers-in-law, Bill Pauley, Bill Durst and Doug Gibbs. Surviving are one son, David Allen Dewees (Darlene) of Point Pleasant; two daughters, Lois Jean Scherer (David "Ike") of Bidwell, OH and Vickie Lynn Walker (Darin) of Point Pleasant; four grandchildren, David "DJ" Dewees (Connie), Kayla Dewees (Abram), Tori Beth Walker and Darrian Walker all of Point Pleasant; three great grandchildren, Kaleb Dewees, Khloe Dewees and Mason Dewees all of Point Pleasant; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dorothy "Dot" Smith, Annetta Durst, Donna and Carl Parsons and Billy Dewees; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a host of friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant, WV with Rev. Matthew Dotson and Rev. Annetta Durst officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetery in Letart, WV. Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m., Tuesday at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
