Joan Madeline Sargent

Joan Madeline “Sug” Sargent, 70, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away Thursday, August 13, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born November 11, 1955, in Gallipolis, OH, a daughter of the late Capt. Everett “Gilly” and Frances Ellen (Young) Grimm. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sister, Diane Bosworth; nieces, Bridgett Bosworth, Heather Smith; nephew, Benson Harrison Shirley; father-in-law, Cecil C. Sargent and brother-in-law, Sonny Hunt.

Sug graduated from Point Pleasant High School, class of 1974. She was a homemaker and a member of the Jackson Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include her loving husband, Cecil Keith Sargent; children, Kourtney (Robert) Long of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Josiah (Natalie) Sargent of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Seth Sargent of Point Pleasant, WV; four grandchildren, Dillon Long (Ashton Doss), Dawson Long, Daisy Sargent (Andrew Kincaid), Delilah Sargent; sisters, Elaine Hunt of Point Pleasant, WV, Jane (Keith) Shirley of Leon, WV; brother, Gilman “Les” (Susan J.) Grimm of Holley Springs, NC; mother-in-law, Phyllis Sargent of Point Pleasant, WV; several nieces, nephews and several sisters and brothers-in-law.

Memorial Service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2026, at Jackson Avenue Baptist Church, Point Pleasant, WV, with Pastor Joe Nott officiating.
