John Regis Corriveau

John Regis Corriveau, 88, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, passed away on August 16, 2025. Born on June 25, 1937 in Beverly, Massachusetts, he was the son of Alfred and Harriet Corriveau.

 John graduated from Beverly High School in 1955, where he excelled as both a track and field and football star. Upon graduation, he attended Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Massachusetts. He later earned an Associate’s Degree in Forestry from Paul Smith College. His passion for education led him to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Master of Science Degree in Counseling from West Virginia University. He devoted much of his career to serving as a Guidance Counselor for Mason County Schools . He inspired students to pursue higher education and encouraged them to achieve their vocational goals. He also enjoyed coaching students in golf. An avid outdoorsman and lifelong adventurer, John found his greatest joy on the trail. He hiked throughout the United States and abroad, including the Appalachian Trail, journeys in New Zealand, and summiting Mount Katahdin on his 80th birthday. He was also an enthusiastic skier and shared his love of the outdoors with his children and grandchildren. John’s curiosity and appreciation for the world extended far beyond travel. He held a deep respect for Native American history and culture. He often supported Native communities and causes close to his heart. His passion for the natural world also fueled his advocacy. He was a proud member of the Sierra Club and the Huntington Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, championing environmental causes and speaking out against social injustices. Known for his eclectic spirit, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, often leaving behind both laughter and reflection. At home, John loved gathering with his family for birthdays, holidays, or simple dinners. He loved gathering up his children and grandchildren for hikes in the woods and fishing expeditions. There were many trips to the Smithsonian Institute Museums in Washington D.C. 

He was preceded in death by his children, Linda Corriveau and David Corriveau. He is survived by his former wife, Judith Corriveau. He leaves behind his children: Julie Corriveau, Lisa Corriveau, Laura Corriveau, and Ryan (Allison) Corriveau. He also leaves behind beloved grandchildren : Lucas Corriveau, Gage Corriveau, Casey Corriveau, Katie Corriveau, Bradley Corriveau, Isabel Dempsey, Flynn Dempsey and Sean Corriveau. Also, brother Peter Corriveau and niece Jacqueline Corriveau.

 A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church located at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Rayappa Kurakula officiating. All are welcome to attend and honor John’s life.
