Larry Eugene "Gene" Harper

Larry Eugene "Gene" Harper, 69, of Gallipolis Ferry, went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 5, 2013, at home. He was born August 19, 1944, in Gallipolis Ferry, WV, a son of the late Iris Cecil Harper and Ruth Beatrice (Gardner) Harper. Gene attended Faith Gospel Church and was a member of Jordan Baptist Church. He was a 1963 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, a volunteer at Pleasant Valley Hospital recently receiving recognition for 3,000 service hours, and retired after 29 years from Shell Chemical. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Reece Mitchell; one sister, Virginia Ruth Harper; three brothers, Lawrence, George, and John Harper; and special companion, Spursy. Gene is survived by his wife; Kay (Fisher) Harper who he married June 3, 1965; a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and Scott Ferguson of Gallipolis Ferry; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Vanessa Harper of Point Pleasant; two granddaughters, Marlee and Ally Harper; and two brothers, Keith (Mary) Harper of Gallipolis Ferry and Lewis Harper of Pomeroy, Ohio. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Faye M. Fisher of Point Pleasant; brother-in-law, Eddie Fisher of Gallipolis Ferry; two special friends, Ronnie Cremeans and Woody Long; a special cousin, Clark Harper; several nieces, nephews, and lots of friends, and good neighbors. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 8, 2013, at Faith Gospel Church with Rev. Gary Warner, Rev. Dean Warner, and Pastor Dee Keith officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery at Gallipolis Ferry. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Saturday at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, and one hour prior to the service at the church Sunday.
