Marjorie Lucille Alford

Marjorie Lucille Alford, 97, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2026, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, OH.

She was born May 6, 1928, in Ashton, WV, a daughter of the late Russell Carl and Elizabeth Opal (Finley) Sturgeon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James B. Saunders; second husband, Milton R. Alford; son, Billy Keith Saunders; brothers, Kenneth Sturgeon, Sam Sturgeon, an infant brother and three sisters, Irene Dixon, Mary Jordan, and Jean Dalton.

Marjorie graduated from Hannan High School and retired from Ross Laboratories in Columbus, OH, as a Line Inspector. She attended Balls Chapel Church in Ashton, WV.

Survivors include her children, Geraldine L. “Geri” Dill and her husband, Lyle of Oak Hill, OH, Wilma Kelly of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, James K. Saunders and his wife, Cathy of Richmond Dale, OH, Robert M. Alford and his wife, Carol of Obetz, OH; sister, Helen Edmonds of Ashton, WV; brother, Lee Sturgeon of Huntington, WV, three special nieces, Janet Conard, Karen Jordan, Joyce Edmonds; special caregiver, Trudy Kelly; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren.

Service will be 1 p.m., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, WV, with Evangelist Brad Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at Moores Chapel Cemetery in Ashton, WV. Friends may visit with the family from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Thursday, at the funeral home.
