Merdia Woodrow Stover, 88, of Apple Grove, WV, passed away Monday, August 31, 2026, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV.
He was born July 29, 1938, in Apple Grove, WV, a son of the late James Harris and Elinor Lillian (Kinniard) Stover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, James Robert “Toby” Stover and two brothers, James Jubal Stover and Bobby Gene Stover.
Merdia served in the United States Army and retired from Sycamore Landfill of Hurricane as a Dozer Operator.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Jean (Plants) Stover; son, Dion Stover and wife, Sherry of Apple Grove, WV; sisters, Elizabeth “Belle” Saunders and husband, Sam of Point Pleasant, WV, Joan Campbell of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Sharon Duncan of Gallipolis Ferry, WV and two brothers, William Stover and wife, Sharon of Letart, WV, Phillip Stover and wife, Debbie of Gallipolis Ferry, WV and several nieces and nephews.
Service will be 1 p.m., Friday, September 4, 2026, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Plants and the Rev. Mike Plants officiating. Burial will follow at Barton Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove, WV. Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of the service.
