Michael Lee Hatfield, 66, of Gallipolis Ferry, passed on peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Tuesday, November 12, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, WV. He was born March 11, 1947, a son of William "Bud" Hatfield of Gallipolis Ferry and the late Virginia "Ginnie" (Rainey) Hatfield. Mike was born and raised in the Gallipolis Ferry, WV area and spent most of his life there. He married Kirsten "Kay" Searls on March 1, 1966, and they shared 47 years of marriage together. Shortly after their marriage, Mike joined the United States Army and served a three year tour of duty, stationed much of that time in Germany. After returning home from service, Mike worked as a welder and pipe-fitter while also farming his land in Gallipolis Ferry. Mike was a life-long member of Jordan Baptist Church of Gallipolis Ferry, graduated from Point Pleasant High School Class of 1964, and was a member of the Minturn Lodge No. 19 A.F. & A.M. of Point Pleasant. Surviving in addition to his father and wife, are two sons, Rusty (Brenda) Hatfield and Chris Hatfield of Gallipolis Ferry; one daughter, Angie (Larry) Huffman of Belleville, WV; and four grandsons, Tyler, Trent, Travis, and T.J. Huffman. He is also survived by four brothers, Rex (Becky) Hatfield of Gallipolis Ferry, Jeff (Sharon) Hatfield of Point Pleasant, John (Stephanie) Hatfield, and Joe (Stephanie) Hatfield both of Gallipols Ferry; two sisters, Nikki Hatfield of Gallipolis Ferry, and Anita (Matt) Evans of Steubenville, OH; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his mother, Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, James "Len" Hatfield and Martha (Trent) Hatfield, and Charles A. Rainey and Anna (Roush) Rainey. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15, 2013, at Faith Gospel Church in Gallipolis Ferry with Pastor Arnold "Dee" Keith officiating. Burial will follow in the Lewis Cemetery at Gallipolis Ferry with military graveside rites given by the West Virginia Honor Guard and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
