Opal Mae Darst

July 26, 1919 — February 3, 2014

Opal Mae Darst, 94, of Point Pleasant, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Monday, February 3, 2014, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was born July 26, 1919, in Henderson, WV, a daughter of the late Theodore Turner and Ida Mae (Asbury) Turner. Opal was a homemaker, and attended the Maranatha Fellowship Church of Ripley, WV. She was a faithful supporter of the Huntington City Mission, and was best known for her chicken and dumplings and Christmas cookies, a legacy which will always be remembered by her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, her husband, Franz L. Darst; a daughter, Mary Payne; two grandchildren, Jack B. Shelines Jr., and Reba Layton Hirzel; a great great grandson, Jeremy Scott Darst; four sisters, Nora Turner, Anita Dunlap, Rose Ann Elliott, and Bessie Oliver; and three brothers, Victor Turner, Earl Turner, Barney Turner. She was married to Franz L. Darst, and to this union eight children were born. Surviving are five sons, Anthony (Alice) Darst of Henderson, Franz (Patty) Darst of Troy, OH, Paul (Mary) Darst of Gallipolis Ferry, Thomas Darst of Henderson, and David Darst of Ravenswood, WV; two daughters, Marjorie Gillispie of Gallipolis, OH, and Ida Mae (Harold) Heugel of Bidwell, OH. She was blessed with 19 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and 15 great great grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with Pastor Steve Little officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens at Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service at the funeral home Wednesday. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Tayengco, and Pleasant Valley Hospital for their loving care and support during this difficult time. They would also like to extend their gratitude to Ida Mae Heugel, her loving daughter who made so many sacrifices during the past two years.
