Stanley Wayne Burdette, 84, of Point Pleasant, passed away Monday, August 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Wayne was born June 10, 1930, in Leon, WV, to Arthur and Florence Burdette. Together, they raised Wayne and his five brothers; Charles Arthur, Zeke, Ronald, Curtis, and John Bill. Throughout their lives the six brothers have always shared a strong bond, supporting and caring for each other and their families as they experienced joys and hardships. As they grew older and married; Charles Arthur to Juanita, Zeke to Jean, Wayne to Patty, Ronald to Jessie, and John Bill to Wanda, the addition of the kind and caring sisters-in-law further enriched and blessed the family. Even today, the surviving brothers and spouses are extremely close and supportive of each other and truly enjoy being together. Likewise, all of the nieces and nephews are helpful to each other, and they anticipate and respond to any and all needs of their beloved aunts and uncles be they expressed or unexpressed. Wayne and his beloved Patty made an unbelievably loving and caring team for almost 52 years working synergistically and effectively to raise a loving family and contribute to the neighborhood, church, and larger community. Their love, commitment and loyalty was an inspiration to others. They were often cited as an example as to how a marriage should work and how a strong family is formed and nurtured. Wayne was always generous with his time in support of others and loved to volunteer at his beloved Presbyterian Church; maintaining equipment, assisting with meals and clothing drives, and even showing up early to clear the walks and steps of snow. He worked indefatigably to make the world a better place. Wayne will be sorely missed by the community as a positive force for good and as an example to others as to how a person should comport himself. It was often noted that he always did what was right, even when it was difficult to do so. He exhibited kindness, goodness, and humility in great measure. Wayne was attentive to everyone's needs and always found a way to use his unique electrical and mechanical skills to help others. He was proud of his many accomplishments as a skilled electrician; helping to build power plants, bridges, and hospitals. He enjoyed looking out from a hilltop on his much loved farm and pointing out to his grandchildren the massive cooling towers of those plants and reflecting on his important contributions with great pride. Wayne was also blessed with Patty's family. He and Patty tenderly cared for her parents, Charlie and Nellie Jones as their health declined. He loved and appreciated John Jones, Bess and Butch Rhodes, and Karen and Jim Anderson and their extended families. He relished spending time with them and they supported each other during Patty's illness. Wayne was a wonderful grandfather. He loved visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren greatly and enjoyed exploring his farm with them; giving rides on his tractor, teaching them to do chores, and traversing the verdant hills with them. They all loved and admired their granddaddy. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Arthur Burdette; his beloved wife, Patricia Ann (Jones) Burdette; his brothers, Charles Arthur and Zeke; his sisters-in-law, Jessie Burdette and Wanda Burdette; and his brothers-in-law, John Jones, Butch Rhodes, and Jim Anderson. Wayne will be remembered with love by his brothers, Ronald, Curtis, and John Bill; and sisters-in-law, Juanita Burdette, Jean Burdette, Bess Rhodes, and Karen Anderson, who were always there to help him with anything, anywhere, anytime. Wayne's children and grandchildren will always remember him as a kind and compassionate father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will forever be in the hearts and memories of his children, Chuck (Trish) Burdette of Springfield, VA, and Sandy (Gary) Aide of Ronceverte, WV; his grandchildren, Jeff (Angela) Burdette of Purcellville, VA, Jim (Maria) Burdette of Arlington, VA, Becky (Josh) Rogers of Morgantown, WV, and Alex Aide of Los Angeles, CA; his precious little great grandchildren Sydney and Corbin Burdette, Abe and Finnegan Burdette, and Zackary and Cora Rogers. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2014, at the Presbyterian Church in Point Pleasant with Pastor John Holland officiating. Burial will follow at the Leon Cemetery in Leon, WV. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. till service time, at the church.
