Warren Ray Cornell

Warren Ray Cornell, 83, of Dunbar, WV, passed away Monday, June 23, 2025, at home.

He was born July 1, 1941, in Guyandotte, WV, a son of the late Clifford Leonard and Lydia Ann (Siders) Cornell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles, Edward "Bob", Danny and Tommy Paul Cornell; three sisters, Phylis Jean Friend, Lydia Ann Arthur and Ada Rose Chandler.

Warren was a 1960 graduate of Hannan High School. Following high school, Warren joined the United States Air Force and served his country faithfully for four years. He graduated from West Virginia State University in 1969 with a degree in Accounting, having worked for Wheeling Pittsburg Steele, W.P. Coal Company and Pickens and Mathers. In 1982, Warren went to work for People's Insurance Company and then becoming an Independent Insurance Agent until his retirement. Warren was a faithful member of the Dunbar Church of Christ in Dunbar, WV.

Left to cherish his wonderful memory include his wife of 62 years, Virginia Eloise (Green) Cornell of Dunbar; two daughters and son-in-law, Beth Ann (Cornell) Nunley of Scott Depot, WV and Lisa and Brian Pitchford of Mims, FL and one son, Kevin Ray Cornell of Scott Depot; six grandchildren, Cydney Justice, Connor (Sadie) Pitchford, Madeline Pitchford, Ian Pitchford, Samantha Nunley and Hannah Nunley; two great-grandchildren, Sophia, Lucas and one on the way; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Leonard and Vivian Cornell of Huntington, WV, Jerry and Debbie Cornell of Apple Grove, WV and Mike and Nancy Cornell of Apple Grove, WV; one sister, Betty Lou Drew of Cleveland, OH and multiple nieces, nephews and host of extended family and friends and his canine companions Bubby, Bella and Shawn that kept him active for many years and brought him joy in his last years.

A funeral service will be held at 12 noon, Friday, June 27, 2025, at Dunbar Church of Christ in Dunbar, WV with Minister Donnie Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fraziers Bottom, WV, with military rites given by the United States Air Force Honor Guard and Stewart Johnson VFW Post #9926 of Mason, WV. Friends may visit from 11 a.m. to 12 noon prior to the service on Friday, at the church.
