Waymer Edward "Buddy" Newman

Waymer “Buddy” Newman, 78, of Point Pleasant, WV, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, WV.

He was born September 20, 1947, in Beech Hill, WV, a son of the late Waymer and Mary (Rhodes) Newman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; brother, Bobby and sisters, Elva (Bit), Mary and Judy.

Buddy retired after 40 years on the river, but his biggest passion came when he went to work for Tri River Transport as a driver. He loved the company, co-workers, and most of all the patients he transported.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Julie; son, Scott of Belpre, OH; sister and brother-in-law, Janet Faye and Larry Lanier of Southside, WV; step-children, Melissa and Chris Barnette of Point Pleasant, WV, Shad and Shana Roberts, step-grandchildren who he loved dearly, Delaney and Jake Roberts of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, Bailey and Gavin Barnette of Point Pleasant, WV. Also left to cherish his memory include many nieces and nephews who he loved; mother-in-law, Barbara Dunlap; brothers-in-law, Brad (Tammy) Minton of Morgantown, WV, Jay (Susie) Minton of Huber Heights, Oh, Mike (Beth) Dunlap of Dallas, TX.

Service will be 4 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, WV, with Pastors Matt Brown and Don Reynolds officiating. Burial will take place at Beech Hill Cemetery, Southside, WV, at a later date as weather permits. Friends may visit with the family from 3 p.m. until time of the service.
