William Lester Newell, 75, of Southside, WV, died Monday, March 31, 2014, at home.He was born December 8, 1938, in Beech Hill, WV, a son of the late Lester William Newell and Nellie Mae (Higginbotham) Newell.William was a retired truck driver for Overnight Trucking, served his country in the United States Army, and was a member of Point Pleasant Moose Lodge No. 731, and the American Legion in Baltimore, Maryland.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Price.He is survived by his wife, Joyce E. (Weethee) Newell of Southside; and her children whom he loved as his own, Angela Hern of Greenup, KY, Alan Hern of Stafford, VA, Jay Hern of Huntington, WV, Alisa Smith of Catlettsburg, KY, and Acea Hern of Kitts Hill, OH. Also surviving, are two brothers, Charles (Norma) Newell of Southside, and Denver (Pauline) Newell of Gallipolis, OH; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.A graveside service will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at Beech Hill Cemetery in Southside, with Pastor Steven Sanderson officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites given by the West Virginia Army Honor Guard, and American Legion Post No. 23 of Point Pleasant.
